After recovery, it is possible to have a vaccination against the coronavirus after only four weeks. Those who have recovered and have been vaccinated are then considered fully immunized.
But what if the infection and the vaccination took place several months ago? k.at publishes a interview with Dr. Eva Höltl, occupational physician and spokesperson for the “Austria vaccinates” initiative. Dr. Hörtl explains when convalescents who have been vaccinated once should receive a booster vaccination.
When should convalescents receive a booster vaccination?
“Studies show that convalescent individuals need only one vaccination to achieve comparable protection to uninfected, regularly vaccinated individuals,” the physician explains. “However, in international travel, two doses may be required for entry, even for convalescents. A second dose can be given, and is also in accordance with the approval, but is not medically necessary from today’s perspective,” says Dr. Höltl.
3-G rule: Is booster vaccination necessary for convalescents?
“In Austria, convalescent persons who have been vaccinated once meet the criteria of 3-G for 360 days from the one-time vaccination,” the doctor explains.
So, for example, if you contracted Covid-19 in February and may have received a vaccination in July, you won’t have to worry about a booster until the beginning of summer 2022. However, if you plan to fly away, you should check the respective entry regulations.
If you belong to a risk group or have health problems, contact your doctor and clarify your individual situation.
